Potatoes farming

Mukike

After carrying out a three-year program (1999-2001) orientated towards the fight against tuberculosis and towards food self sufficiency for AIDS orphans in Burundi, our program here is focused on a global development perspective with the main objective of improving the population's living conditions.

Our actions are concentrated in two directions:

  • Renovating and injecting dynamism to the seed centre of Ruzibazi so as to increase its production. This centre belongs to the Regional Direction of Agriculture and livestock farming.
  • Making sure that the population of the area take advantage of the centre's seed production.

Our intervention is centered on the incorporation of  Ruzibazi within the Mukike town council.

Achievement

The fight against food insufficiency through the relaunching of the Ruzibazi seeding centre located in the Mukike town council at 55 km from the capital , Bujumbura.

This project scheduled for July 2008 is meant to increase food production in the Mukike region by the year 2010.

The objective is to make the project autonomous and to encourage the local population to produce seeds by themselves.
